Now… on to the recipe for green bean casserole, made in Dakar!
For this recipe, you will need basically three things.
- green beans: fresh, frozen or canned. If using fresh or frozen, steam them until just soft before using. In any case, drain off all liquid before mixing with other ingredients.
- cream of mushroom soup: Campbells in a can from the American Food Store, made from a packet mix (as in the photo) available at ATAC, Casino or CityDia or go totally homemade with simple ingredients, like this recipe. Thin the soup with a little milk before mixing with other ingredients
- fried onions: French’s brand from the American Food Store or Oignons Frits from the aperitifs/snack sections of ATAC and Casino.
Mix together the green beans with the soup (I like lots of soup in mine!), black pepper to taste and one third of the onions. Spread in a baking dish, then top with the remaining two thirds of the onions. Bake at 350 degrees until bubbling, around 15-30 minutes depending on the size of your dish.
