A new series on Dakar Eats! Five questions answered by some of Dakar’s best restaurants. For this edition, we’re hearing from Margy at Restaurant Gourmet Le Jardin in Almadies, one of my very favorite restaurants in town.
Describe your restaurant’s style in three words.
Sophisticated, gourmet, exquisite.
What are the most popular items on your menu?
The tuna tartare with ginger marinade, avocado and radishes (Tartare de thon marinade de gingembre, avocat et radis), the gently cooked salmon with sautéed potatoes, spinach, passion fruit and black olives (Saumon cuit en basse température, médaillon de pommes de terre sautées, tombés d’épinard et nage aux fruits de la passion et olives noires) and Philadelphia cream cheese cheesecake with fresh strawberry coulis and sorbet (Philadelphia cheese-cake à la crème fraiche coulis de fraise et sorbet).
What’s one really great thing on your menu that you think people haven’t yet discovered but should try?
Duck confit with toasted almonds, citrus-glazed carrots, potato stars, foie gras and amaretto sauce with fennel seeds (Confit de canard rôti aux amandes, carotte glacés aux agrumes, étoiles de pomme de terre, foie gras et sauce amaretto aux graines de fenouil).
